This project consisted of the installation of a joint duct bank to remove existing ComEd electrical distribution facilities, and existing Level(3) and MCI fiber optic cables from conflict with the Tollway’s Elgin O’Hare Western Access corridor. The project extents were south of Thorndale Avenue from Prospect Avenue in Itasca to AEC Drive in Wood Dale, including a directional bore crossing of Salt Creek, which divides the Village of Itasca and City of Wood Dale.
HBK designed the duct bank package and permitted the design through six different governing agencies. Special attention was paid to the directional bore of the proposed conduit package under Salt Creek in order to avoid inadvertent return of the boring liquid into the creek. Throughout the construction phase, HBK had personnel on-site to provide field engineering support and ensure adherence to the design plans, standards, specifications and traffic control. Additionally, HBK was in constant coordination with the Tollway’s resident engineers and Itasca and Wood Dale Public Works staff in regards to project schedule and duration of disruption to local streets
