HBK continues to be a proud supporter of the Erie Neighborhood House and its mission to empower the community - Latinx immigrants alongside individuals and families of all backgrounds-through education, access to critical services, and advocacy, working together to create a just and inclusive society. This year we joined an inspirational evening at its Annual Awards Dinner: Future of Promise.
In celebration of Women's History Month and International Women's Day, HBK's Women's Employee Resource Group was excited to invite three inspirational leading women in the utility industry to share their journeys to success. It was a perfect evening of food, networking and a thoughtful discussion. We were excited to welcome Najwa Abouhassan from ComEd, Bianca Camarena from People's Gas, and Somali Tomczak from Nicor Gas. Our HBKer and Strive founder and Vice Chair, Susie Othman, moderated the panel.
For years now, HBK has been a proud supporter alongside the "ComEd Coolers" team of the Chicago Polar Plunge presented by Special Olympics Chicago/Special Children's Charities (SOC/SCC). The Chicago Polar Plunge supports year-round recreational activities and competitive sports for anyone with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Locally, they also support over 15 athletic programs at 23 Chicago Park District locations and over 150 Chicago Public Schools.
We can't stay away from NFTE! Our nationwide volunteers have loved coming together each week to see the high school students grow and develop their entrepreneurship mindsets. We have been grateful to connect and help them along the way. This month we dove into the details of numbers and financials.
Our Chicagoland team loved working with Rise Against Hunger so much that we decided to spread the opportunity to our team in our Suwanee office. Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief organization that is growing a global movement to end hunger by nourishing lives, empowering communities, and responding to emergencies. They work with groups locally to package nutritious meals that are then distributed to our partners in need all around the globe. From there, they work with their international partners to create sustainable solutions to hunger and equip them with agriculture training, business skills, and more to create and sustain food in their own communities.
HBK has been a proud participant of ComEd’s Construction Jobs Educational Program, CONSTRUCT since its inception in 2013. CONSTRUCT is a nine-week training program offering up the information and guidance needed to compete for well paying, entry-level jobs in construction related fields for people of diverse backgrounds. This year, HBK has been involved in many of the events the company overview lecture, the HR Panel discussion and most recently the Career Fair.
Two of our HBKers were excited to join the DPL Energy for Wildlife Sporting Clays Fundraising Event to wrap up the month of March. The event supported the National Wild Turkey Federation’s (NWTF) mission of wildlife and habitat conservation and was held at The Point at Pintail on the eastern shore of Maryland. The event had a record number of attendees and was led by DPL’s Manager of Environmental Programs & Services, Charles Reed. Mr. Reed greatly appreciated the support of all the attendees and companies and their focus on environmental awareness. It was a perfect day for shooting clays and connecting with some new folks!
