Chicago Pride Fest

Quanta and HBK joined together to support not only our community partners but our employees at the Chicago Pride Fest October 1st-3rd. The event was a love-filled celebration of diversity, equality and the Chicago LGBTQ+ community on Halsted Street, America’s first recognized gay village. HBK volunteers engaged with the community in fun games and conversations about the company and our values.

Construction & Transportation Awards Luncheon

More than $208,000 was raised for the March of Dimes through the Construction and Transportation Award Luncheon October 1st at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago. Sponsors included Peoples Gas, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP, ComEd, HBK Engineering, John Burns Construction Company and Powering Chicago. HBKers attended the event which honored industry companies, organizations and individuals.

Empower Hosts Panel Discussion

HBK’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group Empower hosted a panel discussion on “Building an Inclusive Climate in the Workplace.” Presenters were Moanica Caston, Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion for Quanta Services, Inc., Kenneth D. Upton, Jr., Sr. Litigation Counsel for Americans United for Separation of Church & State, Erin Perone, Sr. Human Resources Manager for HBK Engineering, and Gabrielle Sims, Project Manager of Digital Solutions for the Gas Technology Institute. Empower President Camden Breeding moderated the virtual event. About 60 people attended and included guests from other Quanta Operating Units.

AIDS Run & Walk Chicago

Congratulations to Alex Hanskat and Ryan Magnoni for winning both the 10K and 5K races in the AIDS Run & Walk Chicago.  Alex and Ryan, along with a few other HBKers, participated in the race on Sunday, October 3rd in partnership with the Center on Halsted.
 

Primera Foundation: STEMFEST

Primera Foundation raised over $57,000 in its inaugural fundraising event, STEMFEST, at Brookfield Zoo. HBK was among the contributing sponsors and several employees attended the family-friendly event. Guests were free to roam the zoo grounds and enjoy a picnic buffet, face painting, educational games, and carousel rides.

MSI Junior Science Cafes

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, HBK Graduate Engineer Eddie Vizcaino was the presenter on Thursday, October 7th for two Museum of Science & Industry Chicago (MSI) Jr. Science Cafes. The virtual events were held with two Chicago Public Schools classrooms comprised of mainly Latinx students. 

MSI Science Works

HBKers joined more than 250 students at the MSI Science Works on Saturday, October 9th. The event promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to children and families through personal interactions with and demonstrations by people in the STEM professions.

HBK Receives GCDPC Support of Service of the Year Award

HBK received the Greater Chicago Damage Prevention Council (GCDPC) Support of Service of the year award at the October 12th GCDPC meeting.  The award is given to recognize exemplary leadership in locating, engineering, and industry collaboration to ensure public safety through progress and continued advancement of the damage prevention process and reduction of utility strikes in the Greater Chicago region.

APWA Suburban/Lake County Update

HBKers attended the APWA Suburban/Lake County Update on October 21st at The Drake Oak Brook. During the luncheon, division representatives from Cook, DuPage and Lake counties gave a summary of transportation projects and capital improvement plans for the next few years. They participated in a Q&A session with various consultants in the audience and a networking event for all in attendance followed.
