HBK was pleased to support the Chicago Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council 80th Annual Gala on October 31. Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and Joseph Dominguez, ComEd CEO, gave remarks at the event which honored the historical legacy of the Back of the Yards neighborhood and the city.
HBK was pleased to join in the ChildServ Founders Day Gala on November 8 at the Hilton Chicago. The event marked 125 years of service for the organization which builds better lives for children so they can achieve their full potential. Early learning, foster care and adoption, and housing for teens and homeless youth are provided for more than 2,500 children each year through ChildServ.
HBK supported the Chicago United Bridge Awards Dinner on November 7 at the Hilton Chicago. Presented by Greely and Hansen, the Chicago Bridge Award honors a Chief Executive Officer who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in achieving diversity and inclusion, especially at the board level. This year's honoree was United Airlines CEO Oscar Muñoz
The Chicago United 2019 Business Leaders of Color were also honored at the event. These dynamic executives hold a vast range of experience in a variety of industries and were recognized as being some of the most influential, diverse and inclusive leaders in the Chicago business community.
HBK was pleased to support the Misericordia Heart Mercy Ball 2019 on November 9 at the Hilton Chicago. Sponsorship helped Misericordia complete several long-term initiatives including building new residential homes on campus, renovating an apartment building acquired on Devon Avenue and an new Community Integrated Living Arrangement in Evanston. These new residences will accommodate the many children and adults on Misericordia's waitlist in need of care.
HBK recognized Veterans Day on November 11 by writing thank you notes to veterans. In addition, employees are collecting items including new stocking caps, socks, gloves and puzzle books to be delivered to local veterans hospitals. The veterans collection runs through November 21.
HBK was pleased to sponsor the St. Ignatius College Prep Business Society 9th Annual Luncheon on November 15 at the Union Club. The St. Ignatius Business Society is a diverse community connected through a shared belief in the St. Ignatius experience. Through innovative and inclusive programming it connects business leaders, professionals and students with the opportunity to network, stay involved with St. Ignatius College Prep and collaborate with each other. More than 300 people attended the event which honored four award recipients.

Jordan received The Award for Excellence in the Field of Business, and Bruna's Ristorante received The Presidential Award for Distinguished Business Partner.

HBK was pleased to support Chicago Commons in its 125th Anniversary Gala on November 15 at the Radisson Blue Aqua Hotel. Generations of Generosity honored some of the organizations most ardent supporters, highlighted its history, and noted the accomplishments of participants.
Chicago Commons programs support more than 3,000 participants annually through early childhood education, family-centered adult education, and senior services.
HBK was pleased to participate in the Women's Energy Network (WEN)-Chicago's EmPOWERment Forum on November 19 at the Museum of Science and Industry. The annual event celebrated women in STEM. The agenda featured an impressive keynote speaker, a POWERful Woman award, a celebration of 2019 accomplishments, and opportunities to network and engage with current and future leaders in the industry.
Katherine Hamilton, Chair of 38 North Solutions, a public policy consultancy specializing in clean energy and innovation was the keynote speaker. Among her many accomplishments, Katherine has been listed on the #Solar100 board by kWh Analytics and received a Cleanie Award as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2018.
HBK IMPACT Volunteers worked at the Greater Chicago Food Depository on November 20. The group assisted by putting together boxes and doing quality checks on donated loaves of bread. The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago's food bank. More than 700 partners across Cook County ensure that nutritious food is available year round to people in need.
HBK Engineering employees had a close-up look at the manufacturing of manholes and other materials for constructing pipelines during a tour of County Materials Corporation in Iowa City on November 19. Designer Kelsey Worcester, Graduate Engineer Quinn McNutt, Designer Cal Tauber and Designer 2 Ian Abram learned about how the manholes are constructed, how the strength of the concrete is tested to meet specifications, and the differences between drycast and wetcast manufacturing. Further, they observed how wire baskets are made and poured into the molding, differences in fitting specifications and how it affects products, design suggestions using structure versus elbow fittings, and new Statewide Urban Design and Specifications (SUDAS) changes for specifications on steps in the manholes.
Also of interest was that County Materials sources the aggregates used for the concrete from the Iowa City area, and two of its production machines came from Iowa-based companies.
