HBK participated in the Museum of Science and Industry Engineer Your Future event on Saturday, June 29. HBK engineers connected with families and children to explore real-world challenges and produce creative solutions. Through hands-on exhibits, the team promoted interesting jobs within engineering fields, explored how to turn passions into careers, and provided advice on pursuing a future in engineering.
The Chicago Metropolitan Chapter of American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) 2019 Fundraising and Scholarship Golf Outing took place Saturday, July 20 at Glen Eagles Country Club in Lemont, Illinois with support from HBK. The firm fielded a foursome and provided sponsorship for the event.
HBK and People's Gas partnered to paint the 4th Floor Adult Wellness Center Hallways at Casa Central on Saturday, July 20. The center provides social services to senior citizens from the Humboldt Park neighborhood and surrounding communities. HBK and PGL volunteers joined forces to beautify the fourth floor hallways by changing the paint color from a drab off-white to a tropical mauve and light pink.
HBK staffers participated in the Recovery on Water (ROW) program Friday, July 26. The 15 HBK employees learned how to physically row with rowing machines and also spent some time on the south branch of the Chicago River with a training boat. They also learned about how nearly 100 breast cancer patients and survivors benefit from the free experience each week. Recovery on Water is a rowing team that gives women with breast cancer a unique opportunity to become active in the sport and to gain support from their peers.
HBK Designer Kelsey Worcester is one of several artists using art to show how litter dangerously affects water in storm drains. Through a street art project in Cedar Rapids, Kelsey's paintings provide visual proof about the damage cigarette butts, Solo cups and other trash cause to underground waterways. She says people often think there are filters that protect the water systems beneath the streets but this is not the case.

HBK employees volunteered Tuesday, July 30, at the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanities Restore in Iowa City, Iowa. The IMPACT volunteers assisted with shelving and tagging used home and building materials, the sale of which helps the organization provide new homes to the needy and also making homes accessible for people with disabilities.
HBK participated in the Women's Energy Network (WEN) Yoga at Joy District event on Thursday, July 24. WEN aims to empower women in the energy industry. The organization represents all aspects of the energy industry including engineers, attorneys, business analysts, operations supervisors, public relations professionals, and management consultants.
HBK proudly participated in the 22nd Annual Catholic Charities Msgr. Michael Boland Golf Invitational on July 24, 2019 at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont. HBK was a Platinum Sponsor and fielded a golf foursome. Nearly 400 golfers supported the fundraising event which benefits the Family Stabilization Efforts, the core mission of Catholic Charities. The program served more than one million meals in 2018 through eight food pantries and screened more than 2,000 people for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
