Throughout the month of March, HBK employees volunteered their time to serve as judges at the 2019 Chicago Metro History Fair. The Chicago Metro History Fair is a project-based inquiry program that challenges students from six through twelfth grade become historians by actually doing history. Each year, more than 15,000 Chicago metro area students complete papers, websites, documentaries, exhibits and performances on topics of their choice for the History Fair.
HBK kicked-off National Volunteer Week with live music, a little team support, and raising money. HBK joined our partner MZI Group Inc for a night of entertainment to help a great cause. Toxic Toast (Mighty Mighty Boss Tones tribute band) and Los Vicios de Papa (Latin Sk-fusion) both performed at the Cubby Bear to benefit Lurie Children's Hospital.
Our Iowa offices took time out of their day to Take a Kid Outdoors (TAKO). TAKO is an organization to immerse participants in enjoyable activities to develop and attitude of joy, wonder, love, and respect for our natural world. Volunteers spent time to help prepare for the upcoming season writing handwritten cards to sponsors/participants.
Today, HBK volunteers from our Chicago offices joined our partners ComEd and Peoples Gas for a volunteer activity at Casa Central Adult Wellness Center. Volunteers spent the morning talking and creating Easter wreaths with the adults. Thank you to all the volunteers for getting out there and making an impact!
On Friday April 12th, HBK employees in our Philadelphia office spent the afternoon volunteering at the Schuylkill River Development Corporation (SRDC) in Philadelphia. Volunteers cleaned up the riverbank including mulching, planting, weeding and trash pickup. The SRCD depends on volunteers to make their diverse programming possible and keep the Banks clean and beautiful all year long. Thank you to all the volunteers for helping make a big impact on the river cleanup!
On Wednesday April 10th HBK attended the Ounce of Prevention Annual Luncheon. This luncheon brings together more than 850 business, civic, and philanthropic leaders united in the shared mission to develop innovative solutions to improve outcomes for our country's youngest and more vulnerable learners. This year's keynote speaker included Anna Deavere Smith whose presentation brought a blend of a theatrical piece with a message that highlights the Ounce's commitment to young children and their families.
On Thursday, April 11, HBK joined Leadership Greater Chicago to honor the leaders who make Chicago Great at this year's 35th Anniversary Gala. The event recognizes and celebrates LGC Fellows, community leaders, and organizations for making a significant and transformative impact on our region. All proceeds from the evening support LGC's Signature Fellows Program and the organization's efforts to build the Greater Chicago Region's civic leadership pipeline.
Our very own Ronald Kaminski, CEO and Donald Kleyweg Jr, Sr. Vice President/Director of Engineering attended the 21st Annual Centuri Customer Advisory Board Meeting held on April 4-5th in Scottsdale, AZ. The first day focused on different business session including: Safety and Quality, Capital Delivery Strategies, and Strategic Relationships.
On Monday April 15th, candidates from the 2019 Construct class graduated at UIC. Candidates were joined by family, friends, participating companies, and agencies. Yesterday a few students from Mercy Home for Boys & Girls visited our HBK Carroll office for career day. They kicked off the day with an introduction about HBK and our work. Students then were taken to shadow employees and learn about topics covering civil engineering, GIS, and utility locating. They closed the day with lunch and an opportunity to discuss career paths in STEM related fields with our HR team.
