On Saturday, February 2nd HBK attended the annual Gigi's Playhouse Gala, the largest and most important fundraiser for Gigi's Playhouse throughout the year. Gigi's Playhouse is an organization that provides programming for children with Down syndrome and support for their families. What began as a single Chicago-suburb based location has now expanded to over 36 locations providing necessary programming and support across the U.S. and Mexico. HBK was proud to sponsor such a worthwhile organization.
On Wednesday, February 6th HBK's Women's Affinity group "Strive" hosted an in house goal setting workshop for finding one's "True North" in 2019. "True North" for this event signifies an internal compass that drives you towards a successful life. Attendees shared their goals on a vision board with fellow participants and explored motivations to become stronger, more successful professional leaders.
On Thursday, February 21th, HBK Philadelphia hosted a group of students at the office in the name of National Engineering Week! The students come from a nearby school with STEM Honors Programs, otherwise known as honors programs that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Employees were delighted that a group of students could join them and maybe one day pursue a career in Engineering!
On Thursday, February 21st, HBK employees and HBK's Women's Affinity Group "Strive" hosted a group of girls from Child Serv's Girls Group Home. The girls arrived at HBK Oak Brook for a bite to eat as well as a discussion about goals, leadership, health, and wellness. Employees spent the evening engaging in meaningful conversation with the girls and HBK sponsored giveaways for each of the girls to take back to the Group Home with them. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed towards making this evening possible!
HBK attended the 24th Anniversary "Field of Dreams Gala" for Girls in the Game. Girls in the Game is an organization that offers sports, health, and leadership programs to help every girl find her voice, discover her strength, and lead life with more confidence. Through these programs Girls in the Game helps over 3,800 girls each year "overcome doubt and find their voice."
Friday, February 15th marked the official first day of ComEd's CONSTRUCT Program and HBK was excited at the opportunity to present to this year's candidates. CONSTRUCT is a nine-week training program that offers selected applicants the information and guidance needed to compete for entry-level jobs in construction related fields. The Program addresses the need to increase the pool of minority candidates by "strengthening job readiness and life skills" in the hopes that at the end of the program, candidates will be ready for full-time employment!
Monday, February 18th marked the 40th Annual Awards Banquet for HACIA (Hispanic American Construction Industry Association) to celebrate the success and achievements of HACIA members. HACIA is a organization that "works to ensure the equitable participation of its constituents in the construction industry, while also promoting the growth, quality of work, professionalism and integrity of these individuals and businesses. ”
Friday, February 22nd HBK Executives attended the 15th Annual Aspire Gala for the Cal Ripken Foundation. This Foundation is committed to helping undeserved youth achieve their full potential through "character education programs" and "youth development parks that empower kids to make smart, healthy choices." All proceeds from this event go to further the mission of the Cal Ripken Foundation and "work with at-risk youth across the country."
On Saturday, February 23rd, HBK employees volunteered at the University of Illinois at Chicago for a STEM Expo presented by the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). This Expo supports K-12 STEM Programming as part of National Engineering Week by having volunteers speak about what makes their STEM profession so rewarding, with the hopes that more students will choose STEM related professions as well.
