On Saturday, September 29, HBK took part in our 2nd annual Fit Company Challenge. The Fit Company Challenge is the only major fitness event for the corporate sector and as such it is designed to get employees energized, motivated, and working together towards common goals. Employees tackled 3 fitness courses that tested strength, stamina, and conditioning.
The Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association hosted their Northeast Chapter Golf Outing on Friday, September 28th at White Pines Golf Club. Part of the proceeds from the day will be donated to the IPLSA Scholarship Fund. HBK is a proud supporter of IPLSA and their mission to include the advancement of the Land Surveying profession by promoting high standards of practice and conduct, by upholding the Illinois Land Surveyors Act and by supporting and encouraging members through continuing education, professional association, and the use of current technology.
On Monday, October 1, HBK spent the day enjoying the fall weather on the greens of the third annual BGE Smart Energy Open. The Open benefits Susan G. Komen, the worlds largest breast cancer organization, and all their work funding breast cancer research while providing real-time help to those facing the disease.
October 11, 2018 marked Casa Central's Annual Awards Dinner at the Hilton Chicago. As the largest Hispanic social service agency in the Midwest, Casa Central provides various family-centered programs that are central to the community. This event supports Casa Central's mission "to be the conduit through which thousands of individuals build hope for the future, while equipping themselves to achieve a sustainable, higher quality of life for the benefit of self, family, community, and society."
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) hosted their annual awards dinner on Thursday, October 11th at Navy Pier. As one of the nation's largest sections, the ASCE Illinois Section represents more than 2,700 members and provides them with a platform to mentor, learn, teach, and participate in something larger than themselves.
Tuesday, October 9th, was the 19th annual awards dinner benefitting the Chicago Public Library & The Chicago Public Library Foundation. The awards were presented to beloved author Judy Blume, renowned astrophysicist and host of NOVA, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and poet, novelist, and essayist Erika L. Sanchez. HBK attended the dinner in support of the Chicago Public Library Foundation and their dedication to launch and sustain programs that benefit Chicagoans of all ages.
On Thursday, October 11th HBK was a judge at the University of Iowa's first ever Hawkeye Pitch-Off in Chicago. This "Shark Tank" style competition gave contestants an opportunity to compete for seed funding to support their business. Contestants were given the opportunity to network with local businesses and investors before giving a quick 5-minute attention-grabbing pitch on why they should win support. The evening resulted in a tie between HeathTech Solutions, an app that is dedicated to organ transplant communication, and VerdiLife, a company with ecological aspirations to make the planet healthier by replacing chemicals in agriculture.
On Thursday, October 11th HBK participated in a WEN Panel Discussion at the Catalyst Ranch in Chicago. The panel featured a ComEd rates manager, an attorney who represents rate cases, and an ICC representative who all shared their advice and experiences with the subject. Discussions and networking opportunities like this are just one of the many benefits WEN provides as an international association for women professionals.
HBK proudly sponsored the West Central Association's 100 year milestone celebration on Wednesday, October 17th. The WCA is an association that began in 1918 and is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of its member businesses, institutions, and organizations in one of the fastest growing areas of Chicago.
On Friday, October 26th HBK joined ChildServ in celebrating their 124th year of service at the Annual Founder's Day Gala. Proceeds from this event will go towards ChildServ's programs and tireless efforts to help at risk children and families build better lives in order to reach their full potential. Congratulations to all the Lucy Rider Meyer Humanitarian Awardees, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, and United Airlines.
