Internship Program
HBK Engineering offers a robust Internship Program that provides students a real world application of their classroom studies. Students interning at HBK receive dedicated mentoring and hands-on training from some of the industry’s best engineers. HBK interns take an active role in the organization, obtaining experience across the board, from design work in the office to survey work in the field.
The Engineering Internship Program takes place year-round. As an intern, school is the first priority. HBK works with students to develop a schedule that allows them to balance both school and work. STRUCTURAL & GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER
A Professional Engineering firm located in downtown Chicago is searching for a Structural / Geotechnical Engineer. The firm offers a professional work environment, excellent benefits, competitive salary and growth potential.
The position requires:
- B.S. Degree in civil / structural / geotechnical engineering
- Current Licensed Structural Engineer registration in the State of Illinois required
- 10+ years combined experience in structural and geotechnical engineering
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Preparation of technical memos, reports, construction specifications and other written documentation
- Consulting background preferred
- Ability to travel, as needed
- Demonstrated ability to perform and manage diversified tasks through the life-cycle of projects
With emphasis on:
- The ability to apply engineering theories, techniques and analysis to structural and geotechnical engineering designs
- Understanding of industry design codes including AISC, ASCE, UBC and IBC
- The fundamental knowledge of principles of geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, and groundwater hydrology required
With design / field experience in:
- Earth and rock engineering
- De-watering operations
- Slope stability and earth stabilization operations
- Earth and rock tunneling
- Building foundations
- Deep shaft and trench excavation temporary and permanent earth retention
- Performing calculations and preparing sketches and / or AutoCAD drawings for design operations
- Geotechnical subsurface investigations, field investigations and engineering analysis
- Conceptual and value engineering with emphasis on constructability issues
PROJECT ENGINEER
HBK Engineering is seeking a Project Engineer to join our team to complete survey, planning, and design consulting work for our clients. He/she will work directly with project managers, licensed engineers, and design staff. HBK is seeking an individual with the desire and ability to manage his/her own projects from inception to completion and facilitate the growth of our company in the northeast and mid-Atlantic region.
Areas of Responsibility:
- All aspects of project management and development, including scope identification and development
- Field investigation
- Topographic survey utilizing total station and survey quality GPS equipment
- Records research
- Basemap drafting
- Facility design
- Permitting
- Client interaction
- Project controls
- Quality control
- Project documentation
- Sub consultant management
- Invoicing
The Position Requires:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a strong foundational knowledge
- Must have EI status and be working towards becoming a PE
- Minimum of two years experience in the field of Civil Engineering, preferably with both design and field experience
- Ability to apply engineering principles and processes as a means to solve a variety of problems
- Strong work ethic
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD and Microstation
- Must work well in a small team environment
