During the ComEd Press Conference (June 10, 2008) for the completion of the West Loop Project, HBK Engineering was recognized among a small group of major subcontractors who contributed to the success of the project. “Today we are not simply announcing the completion of the largest and most complex project of its kind ever undertaken by the company. The West Loop Project marks a fundamental change in the way ComEd serves the City of Chicago,” opened Frank M. Clark, ComEd Chairman and CEO. Alderman Scott Waguespack (32nd Ward) remarked that this project will benefit the residents and businesses in the ward and across the city for many years to come and will help foster economic growth in Chicago. The completion of this project is a culmination of eight years of work. “That the West Loop Project was done on time, under budget, and with a remarkable safety record only deepens our appreciation [to those who worked on the project],” said Senior Vice President of ComEd, Terence Donnelly.
On May 12, 2008, Eric Bergstrom, VP and Director of Chicago Operations, received the Charles Steinmetz Award for Technical Merit from the Consulting Electrical Engineers Division of the Electrical Association. Eric was honored for his outstanding achievements in electrical design for his project management and engineering on the largest and most complex transmission line project to date in ComEd’s history. Eric’s role in this project was to oversee the design of over eight miles of 138kV/345kV electrical underground ductbank in the streets of Chicago and the Electrical and Civil Site development for five substations, counter poise routing for EMF mitigation, transmission pole placement and construction observation. As a result of Eric’s efforts, ComEd, the City of Chicago and the citizens of the city have safe and reliable power for the next 30 years combined with new substations positioned for the future growth of the city.

Hines Letter
- Carroll Avenue Utility Relocation (October 12, 2006)
I want to personally extend my appreciation to both Kenny Construction and HBK Engineering for making the Carroll Avenue Utility Relocation project a resounding victory. This was a difficult project on several levels ranging from design hurdles to surprises in field conditions. The most demanding complexity, however, was dealing with tough neighbors and, moreover, coordinating with multiple utility owners...they faced all these challenges head on and handled each expeditiously and tactfully. I look forward to continuing our relationship and I anticipate working with you in the future.
